Or when this little bird needs to pour her broken heart out because it's been two days and I'm still not over it.
If you haven't already been through the whole Western Approach part of the game, there will be spoilers and even if you have there might be spoilers too depending on your world state when you did.
*spoilers starting here*
So this is the part of the game where you go find a warden with Hawke to find out what they've been up to right, and by the end of it you find yourself, your friends, said warden and Hawke facing the Nightmare in the Fade. And assuming the script doesn't vary depending on who's coming with you, not everyone is coming back...
Well in my case it has been overwhelmingly heartbreaking, I had to stop playing for ten minutes and stare at my screen with tears in my eyes (and I hardly ever cry when it comes to movies, books, games), I'm pretty sure I told my computer a few times how much I hated everyone at Bioware at that point...
Thing is my world state is the following: by the end of DAO my Warden was very much in love with Alistair and so was he and since she was a mage and an elf, Alistair left the throne to Anora and they both remained with the Wardens. See where this is going?
I was delighted when Hawke told me the name of her Warden friend was Alistair. I awed aloud when I listened to him tell me about his beloved Aelyna and I squealed when my Inquisitor received a lovely letter from my Warden asking her to take care of Alistair and keep him alive because she was trying to find a cure the darkspawn disease for the two of them.
And then we all went to the Fade, my Inquisitor, Varric, Blackwall, Cole (who makes the Fade extra creepy by the way), Hawke and Alistair and when time came to finally get out of there, I had to choose who to leave behind: Hawke or Alistair... I mean Hawke or Alistair? How can I choose between these two, really?
In the end I left Hawke behind and now every time I talk to Varric and he mentions Hawke, I mutter "I'm so sorry, Varric!" to my computer. I'm also praying my Inquisitor never finds herself meeting Fenris because he oughta be pissed!
But I couldn't kill Alistair, I just couldn't... Because he's Alistair and because I couldn't do that to my Warden but Maker's breath I've never felt so guilty about a gaming decision in my life!
That world state is my canon world state, it actually is my favorite one closely followed by the one where my human Warden became Alistair's queen (mainly because I played my elf mage Warden before my human rogue one) and I don't think I'll ever play DAI with that world state ever again. 'Tis too difficult...
So this is it, really had to let that out!
